|Statement of Purpose|
"Why Are We in Iraq?" is a poetry web-zine. We publish poetry
that deals with Iraq, the American involvement there, and the
consequences of that involvement on any and all peoples, regardless
of nationality or politics.
We feel that poetry has a unique place in literature. It is the literary form that best expresses emotions and feelings. While the essay and prose may be better mediums for arguing politics and expressing ideas, poetry by its very nature connects people at a deep, visceral level. If you want to understand a people, stand in their shoes as it were, you need to read their poetry.
The purpose of this site is to propagate discussion and expose readers to differing points of view. Therefore, we do not have a test for political correctness. In fact, we steadfastly will not test for political correctness.
Consider this a platform for poets to speak to the world.
