A War Hero's Story
Hobbling down the road,|
My army clothes in rags, medals on my chest,
Looking for my brother.
One leg left.
The other? Lost in battle.
I was told it was my enemies,
But never understood.
That I am here and not my brother,
Is just a struck of fate.
My brother took the bullet
That was coming for my heart.
On my god leg I kneel and beg for alms.
In their passing, they all avoid my eyes
Though sometimes gives me coin.
In my heart, I know; it is all a lie!
I did it not for them, I did it for my brother
Who gave it all... he had.
