Tears of War
by Melissa Rachel

The eagle flies
over the raging battle
as men and women fight
for their country,
their lives
with toys of destruction.
The eagle soars
over the smoke,
the dead,
and tears shine in its eyes.
Like silent rain,
it cries upon faces lost in chaos,
soldiers doing as they are told
while bitter consequences
fuels the raven watching with rising anticipation,
and the eagle flies away.
