The Hero
by Lacey R Hunt

I did not want to go,
They forced me.
I did not want to die,
They did not care.
I tried to run,
They caught me.
They ordered an attack,
I cried out in pain.
In safety I died,
They laughed out loud.
They made a speech in my hometown,
I wasn't there to call them liars.
They said I gave my life,
I struggled to keep it.
They said they were proud,
I was ashamed.
I wanted to live,
They called me a coward.
I died a coward,
And they call me a Hero.
