She Sits Seeing Nothing
by Dennis Leischner

Children play, unseen.
Children laugh, unheard.

Sun, extinguished
Trees, barren,
Flowers, scentless.

Eyes straining,
Veiled
As memories flood.

Infant, child, man.
Little league, college grad,
Husband, father,
Photo on a tank.

Tear stained paper
Grasped
By trembling hands.

She sits,
Seeing nothing.

We regret to inform you
