Iraq War Simile

I didn't mean to squash your Speedy Prized caterpillar who won our racing contests Getting up from the porch glider I mis-stepped You cried and I felt so very bad At least we rescued some of 'em Dad and brothers chopped down frothy nests They burned them in the backyard pile Said they were pests, but we looked away No matter in captivity they died in days We saved them in jars for a little bit Tried to feed them leaves and drops of water Some lasted longer, all succumbed I remember Skippy getting run over by a tire Of the bus that dropped us off after school Tail-wagging collie who followed us all over And now he rests in fields of clover ~ Copyright © 2007 - agape Published: 11/1/07 · Author's Page · Next Poem |
