You promised to return

You left on a Thursday morning. I still hear your voice in my mind's ear. You left me with the warning not to believe all that I hear. You told me that the daily news never reveals the total story. You parroted your commander's views - who only focuses on the glory. Now I pray I'll not hear word of you until you walk back through our door. I'll fly the flag, red, white and blue, while you're on a distant shore. But these colors will only fly for you - for the cause itself is tragically untrue. ~ Copyright © 2007 - Vera Spitz Published: 9/20/07 · Author's Page · Next Poem |
